Benefits of Opening a “My Social Security” Account

  1. Social Security
  2. Benefits of Opening a “My Social Security” Account

Back in February, we published a blog with step-by-step instructions on how to open an SSA portal account. This time, we would like to discuss in greater detail the benefits of opening a Social Security Administration (SSA) portal account.

Opening an online Social Security account is a key step in managing your Social Security benefits and staying on top of your personal information. With a My Social Security account, you can access a range of services, such as checking your Social Security statement, checking on the status of your application, or checking on your benefits.

BENEFITS OF OPENING A MY SOCIAL SECURITY ACCOUNT

  1. Checking your Social Security Statement: See your work history and projected benefits. Logging in and seeing that your projected benefits are growing is always a nice reward.
  2. Tracking your application status: You can monitor the progress of your claims and requests through your My Social Security Account.
  3. Updating Information: You can change personal information, such as address or phone number, change your direct deposit information, and more. Logging in to your portal and updating this information rather than personally visiting an SSA office is safe, convenient, and time-saving.
  4. Requesting replacement documents: Many times, claims are delayed because documents are missing, need updating, or need to be replaced.

NECESSARY ITEMS TO OPEN YOUR MY SOCIAL SECURITY ACCOUNT

  • Your Social Security number
  • Your email address
  • Personal information: address, phone number, and other identifying information.
  • A mobile phone number (optional): You may be asked to provide a phone number for additional security during the account setup.

At Parmele Disability Advocates, we are working with you to help you receive the disability benefits you deserve. When you open your My Social Security Account, this in no way removes Parmele from your disability claim or diminishes the role we have in your case. This is simply an added benefit for you and allows you immediate access to your information 24/7. The Parmele team will not ask you for this login information, nor can we access your My Social Security account. This account is separate from your disability claim handled by Parmele, and we have nothing to do with it.

Setting up your My Social Security account helps you get information as quickly as possible, which in turn helps you provide that information to us. It allows you to be more aware of your claim, more involved, and more informed. If you wish to set up your My Social Security account but are not sure where to begin, click here to visit our February blog, which provides step-by-step instructions for opening this account.

At Parmele, we are thrilled to have over 100 team members working together to help you get the disability benefits you deserve. Our legal team has over 135 years of disability experience and has helped over 61,000 people receive disability benefits. We think that alone speaks volumes in our ability to help you get yours.

If you are considering applying for disability benefits, call Parmele at 866-889-2570 to schedule a no-cost consultation so we can review your best next steps together.
