With a My Social Security account, you can access a range of services, such as checking your Social Security statement, checking on the status of your application, or checking on your benefits.
BENEFITS OF OPENING A MY SOCIAL SECURITY ACCOUNT
- Checking your Social Security Statement: See your work history and projected benefits. Logging in and seeing that your projected benefits are growing is always a nice reward.
- Tracking your application status: You can monitor the progress of your claims and requests through your My Social Security Account.
- Updating Information: You can change personal information, such as address or phone number, change your direct deposit information, and more. Logging in to your portal and updating this information rather than personally visiting an SSA office is safe, convenient, and time-saving.
- Requesting replacement documents: Many times, claims are delayed because documents are missing, need updating, or need to be replaced.

- Your Social Security number
- Your email address
- Personal information: address, phone number, and other identifying information.
- A mobile phone number (optional): You may be asked to provide a phone number for additional security during the account setup.
