Last week, we covered five strategies for creating a more peaceful holiday season. This week, we’re continuing the conversation with five additional ways to keep the holidays enjoyable, meaningful, and low-stress.
6. Stay Present
With all the hustle and bustle, it’s easy to lose sight of what this season is truly about: CONNECTION. Make a conscious effort to slow down and savor, enjoy, and participate in the moments around you. A simple way to stay grounded is by keeping a gratitude journal. Set aside a few minutes each day to reflect on positive moments, big or small, and jot them down. You may be surprised how much joy you find in the little things.
7. Simplify Traditions
Traditions can be meaningful, but they can also become overwhelming if they grow too complicated…think elaborate meals or time-intensive decorations. Consider simplifying your holiday rituals by focusing on what matters most to you and your family. You might even start new, low-effort traditions like a cozy movie night, a holiday-themed game, or a peaceful family walk.
8. Know When to Step Back
If the holiday season starts to feel more like work than joy, it’s 100% okay to pause and reassess. If you’re hosting and feeling stretched, don’t hesitate to scale down your plans. Your well-being comes first, and you’re not responsible for meeting everyone’s expectations. Be reminded that inviting others to help can lighten your load and make the celebration feel more collaborative.
9. Embrace Imperfection
Perfection isn’t the goal—connection is. Burnt cookies, forgotten decorations, or mismatched sweaters often become the stories everyone laughs about later. Embrace these situations. They’re part of what makes the holidays memorable.
10. Reflect and Recharge After the Holidays

Once the celebrations wind down, allow yourself time to rest. Look back on your favorite moments and appreciate the effort you put into making the season special. Flip through holiday cards, revisit warm memories, and enjoy putting away decorations that hold sentimental value. Reflection helps you recharge before the new year begins. The holidays are meant to be a time of joy, connection, and meaningful moments, not stress. Be gentle with yourself, enjoy the journey, and remember: the simplest moments often become the most treasured memories.
